COLLINS: Just try to be a little better each day
AFTER WHAT WE’VE BEEN THROUGH the past couple of years, it’s easy to just throw your hands into the air and give up. And where would that lead us? Further down the road to a society that allows itself to fester and rot in a world of self-destruction.
It’s hard to picture anything else, but if this current state of affairs is going to change, our attitude must change. Simply put, we need to take a brighter outlook on life.
Some will laugh at that and call it cheesy and pie-in-the-sky thinking. But the ones who get it know exactly what has to happen. They are the people who will continue to smile when greeting others, and who will look for ways to build up rather than tear down. Who will search for ways to forgive. To have compassion for those less fortunate. It is not an easy task, but if each of us took on the challenge of reaching out in a positive way to just one other person, we would be well on our way. It’s a daunting task but if not you or I, then who?
Sorry to be such a Suzy Sunshine on this second day of a brand new year. It may seem overwhelming, but we have to start somewhere.
