KAMLOOPS — Todd Warnick has taken personal leave from his position as head coach of the TRU WolfPack women’s basketball team.

Scott Clark, formerly head coach of the WolfPack men’s basketball team, has the reins of the women’s program on an interim basis until the end of the 2024-2025 Canada West campaign.

WolfPack athletics director Curtis Atkinson was asked if Warnick will return to coach the team in the future.

“At this point, we’ll probably assess in the new year,” he said. “I don’t have an answer for you today. We just know Scott will be interim coach until the end of the Canada West season and we’ll assess over the coming months.”

Warnick joined the WolfPack in time for the 2022-2023 season.

The program has had three head coaches and two interim head coaches since 2018 and has posted a record of 16-96 during that period.

“I understand it’s disruptive and some of them (women’s players) have been through this before and I don’t feel good about that,” Atkinson said. “But, as a department, you look across the board, we’ve had pretty good stability and consistency with our programs. This is one we have to spend some time on and look at why this is happening.”

Clark coached the men’s team for 13 years and led it to a national championship berth in 2016.

The former Canada West men’s basketball coach of the year moved away from the bench after the 2022-2023 season and was named the manager of high performance sport for the WolfPack.

“You never see a Scott Clark-coached team that he doesn’t get a lot out of,” Atkinson said. “We feel really fortunate, quite frankly, that we have someone with Scott’s track record on staff right now that can step in and help with that transition.”

The WolfPack (0-10) will return to regular season play on Jan. 10, when they travel to Vancouver to play the UBC Thunderbirds (8-1).
