KAMLOOPS – Wednesday night (Dec. 18), the CPKC Holiday Train made its annual stop in Kamloops to raise money, food and awareness to support food banks across the country. It’s an event beloved by all in Kamloops and the surrounding area.

“I grew up loving trains. It’s been like a family-type thing. I had the train set kind of like these trains and I think it’s really cool,” said attendee Jeremy Sidney

Hundreds of people gathered behind Sandman Centre to take in the festive lights and free concerts from the brightly decorated stage. For some, it was their first time ever seeing the stunning locomotive decked out in lights.

“I’ve been in Canada since 2003 but I live in Nova Scotia, so I’ve come out for Christmas. This is the first chance I’ve ever had of seeing the train,” Jane Saxby told CFJC News.

Since its inaugural journey in 1999, the CPKC holiday train has raised more than $24.3 million and collected approximately 5.3 million pounds of food for community food banks across North America.

“It’s a wonderful event just to have the train come through. It’s just a very much-needed support and a very wonderful effort by Kamloops Food Bank to support our community. It’s just a great event.” Geordon Lloyd of the Kamloops Food Bank.
