KAMLOOPS — The Modern Man Family Project is bringing holiday joy to single fathers in Kamloops through its annual Christmas hamper program, offering support and hope to families in need.

Founded by Dante Tomada, the organization aims to provide resources and mental health support to single dads facing various challenges. Its Christmas initiative, now in its fifth year, has become a beacon of hope for many in the community.

“While it may just seem like a simple Christmas hamper to a single dad, to them it probably means 1,000 times more,” said Kris Willems, a single dad involved with the project. “It’s really good to be able to have that happen to you and then turn around and be able to give that back.”

Each hamper, valued at approximately $2,000, is carefully curated for individual families and includes gifts for both fathers and children. The project relies on community nominations and local business sponsorships to identify deserving recipients.

“We go out to the community, look for donations. We also look for nominations,” explains Tomada. “If anybody knows of a single dad that has done really well and is trying really hard, nominate them and then we might be able to give them a basket.”

The program’s impact extends beyond material gifts. For many participants, it offers a lifeline during difficult times.

“When I got in touch with the Modern Man Family Project, I was in a pretty dark place, mental health-wise,” said Willems. “The great thing with these guys here is there’s no judgment.”

In addition to the hamper program, the organization offers year-round support services, including mental health resources and legal assistance for custody battles.

To fund their initiatives, the charity is hosting a Christmas 50/50 raffle.

Those interested in nominating a deserving father or making a donation can reach out through the organization’s social media channels. Hamper deliveries are scheduled for December 23.
