Four-stage water restriction plan coming to CSRD residents
SALMON ARM, B.C. — The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) will roll out a new four-stage water restriction plan in the spring.
While initial details are scarce, the CSRD board approved the plan during its meeting on Friday (Dec. 13) to protect water supplies and reduce strain on the local water infrastructure. In a news release issued Tuesday, the district says it’s similar to plans in place in Salmon Arm, Sicamous and Revelstoke.
“It will have increasing levels of water-use restrictions based on drought levels or other environmental factors, such as wildfires or water system capacity,” the CSRD states. “Increasing conservation measures will help ensure water is available to residents for essential purposes including safe drinking water, firefighting and food production.”
When water demands are high, the CSRD says the pumps and disinfection systems must work harder, which makes them more likely to need repairs or upgrades.
