Blazers end up winless on Alberta road trip, fall to Oil Kings 7-3

Dec 16, 2024 | 7:42 AM

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers lost six straight games heading into the Western Hockey League (WHL) holiday break after failing to pick up a win on their three-game Alberta road trip.

The Blazers concluded a stretch of three games in three nights with a 7-3 loss Sunday (Dec. 15) to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Kamloops local Jordan Keller set the Blazers up well early by tipping in Nathan Behm’s pass on the power play 38 seconds into the first period.

Over the next 25 minutes of play, the Blazers would surrender four straight goals. The Blazers would get back within striking distance after Behm put back Max Sullivan’s rebound to make it a 4-2 game heading into the third.

But within striking distance is as close as the Blazers would get. The Oil Kings scored their first of two shorthanded goals 23 seconds in to make it 5-2. Conner Radke scored a minute later to get the Blazers within two again, but the Oil Kings added two more goals en route to the 7-3 win.

The Blazers fall to 12-18-2-0 on the 2024-25 WHL season, good for 26 points in 32 games. They’re ninth in the WHL Western Conference and fifth in the B.C. Division.

The Blazers are off until Friday, Dec. 27, when they welcome the Vancouver Giants to Sandman Centre. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
