Snowfall warning issued for Hope to Merritt section of the Coquihalla

KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Hope to Merritt section of the Coquihalla Highway.

It says between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow could fall this weekend, leading to some hazardous conditions for people on the highway.

“A robust frontal system will pass over the region,” the weather agency said, in a statement. “Snow will intensify this evening and persist through the night before tapering off to flurries Sunday morning.”

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”

Environment Canada also says there will be strong winds in the area leading to blowing snow, which may hamper visibility.
