KAMLOOPS — More than 28,000 people attended Wildlights last year, a record-setting number for the annual event held at the BC Wildlife Park in Dallas.

Organizers hope to surpass that mark this year and gates are opening on Friday (Dec. 13), with a sensory friendly evening planned in partnership with Canucks Autism Network.

Several new features are bolstering festivities, including a well-lit Flinstones Flintmobile, a dazzling 34-foot Christmas tree and Spider-Man, who children will be tasked with finding.

Woodland Caribou will be fed at 5:30 p.m.

“They’re related to the reindeer,” BC Wildlife Park general manager Glenn Grant said. “There is a lighted pathway to enjoy some of the wildlife here, as well.”

The time-honoured staples are returning, including the holiday train (which will go through a tunnel this year), along with Uncle Chris The Clown, the bright tunnel of Christmas happiness, rope-light scenes and hot chocolate around the fire.

On Fridays and Saturdays, the Frozen sisters will perform in the Magical Forest, while Santa, Mrs. Claus and Buddy The Elf will be available for photos amid the indoor Winter Wonderland display.

Wildlights is slated to run from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. until Jan. 5, with the exception of Christmas Day.

Grant said the event cannot take place without the help of sponsors, including MJB Law, Cascades Casino and Canadian Tire
