SUN PEAKS B.C. — (UPDATE 3:15 p.m.): The search for a missing 68-year-old skier at Sun Peaks Resort has come to a tragic end.

In a statement Friday (Dec. 13), Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP confirmed that the body of Tomasz Jaholkowski was found on Thursday “near an area of the ski resort.”

“No criminality is suspected in his death,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said. “The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is also investigating.”

Jaholkowski was last seen standing in line at the West Bowl chairlift on Tod Mountain around 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec.10. He was reported missing on Wednesday, after he failed to return to his hotel room, prompting a multi-day search that involved the RCMP, search and rescue volunteers, and Sun Peaks Ski Patrol.

In a separate statement, Sun Peaks Resort said Jaholkowski’s body was found “outside the ski-area boundary,” though they did not specify where exactly.

“The RCMP is continuing their investigation, and all further statements will come from the RCMP detachment,” the Sun Peaks statement said.

“Mountain recreation is meant to be a source of joy, and our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to Mr. Jaholkowski’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

This is a developing story, and more information will be provided once it’s available.
