Rivers Trail in Pioneer Park reopens; parking lot and boat launch remain closed as crews clean up Red Bridge debris
KAMLOOPS — The Rivers Trail through Pioneer Park is not expected to close again as cleanup of the Red Bridge fire carries on.
In an update posted Monday (Dec. 9), the City of Kamloops states the stretch of the Rivers Trail reopened but the Pioneer Parking boat launch and parking lot remain closed until further notice.
“The McArthur Island boat launch remains closed due to low water levels,” the city states. “The Valleyview boat launch is open, however residents are asked to stay away from the Red Bridge site. Transport Canada and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure have ordered the portion of the South Thompson River between Pioneer Park and Riverside Park to remain closed to all boating. Residents are asked to abide by all posted signage.”
The portions of the Red Bridge not destroyed by the fire on Sept. 19, 2024, have since been removed. Crews can be seen working in the nearby stretch of the South Thompson River.
