COLLINS: Never again shall I watch a Kamloops council meeting
MAY I NEVER AGAIN bring myself to watch a live broadcast on the city’s web page.
Suffering from a short attention span, I have difficulty paying attention for any length of time. I seldom watch documentaries on TV, unless I watch them in segments. I seldom watch a sports event from start to finish, preferring instead to catch the highlights, where the excitement is. I have stated before that I have never liked attending news conferences or meetings of any sort. Just too boring. My short attention span cost me a lot in high school and university.
All of this leads up to Tuesday’s special council meeting. Bill Sarai was to make a statement regarding his taping of part of a meeting with the mayor a couple of years back. Would he apologize for the taping, would he resign, and what would the council do?
I reasoned that it would likely be a short meeting, so against my better judgment I tuned in. The first thing I noticed as councillors got ready for the meeting, was the tension in the room. “You could cut it with a knife” to paraphrase an old saying. No smiles, no jocularity. It was like they were filming a segment of The Walking Dead.
