Celebrate a Life craft sale and memory tree raising money for Kamloops Hospice

KAMLOOPS — Volunteers with the Kamloops Hospice Association are back in Northills Mall this year for the organization’s Celebrate a Life fundraiser.

“You name it, we’ve probably got it,” says longtime Kamloops Hospice Society volunteer Mary Rea.

Tables of locally made crafts and gifts are sold to raise money for hospice operations, along with raffle tickets to enter the draw for a large, handmade quilt donated by the Cotton Pickets Quilting Guild each year. People can also purchase tags in commemoration of a loved one to hang on the Memory Tree.

“You can come and put your card on the tree in memory of somebody, and change the lightbulb from a white one to a red one. And that connects with your loved one,” explains Rea. “Whomever. Whether it be a husband or a wife, or a child or whomever. Just that memory.”

The annual, cash-only sale raises thousands of dollars for hospice operations. And it also serves as a way for the community to connect with volunteers and learn more about Kamloops Hospice, which is a large part of why Rea and others come out each year to run the craft sale.

“To look at the crafts, to enjoy that. And it’s the people. You know, the mixing with the people. Whether it be the volunteers or the people coming up to purchase. It’s just the socialization of it all,” she adds.

Celebrate a Life is on now, and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, until December 19 from Northills Mall.
