KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops RCMP officer pleaded guilty to the lesser of two charges after a rough arrest outside of Kamloops City Hall a year ago that was captured on video.

In Kamloops Law Courts Monday (Dec. 2), Cst. David Tucker pleaded guilty to one count of mischief of $5,000 or under. He was given a conditional discharge with a one-year probation order with various conditions.

Tucker’s other charge, one count of assault, was waived by the Crown.

On July 31, 2023, Tucker responded to a disturbance between a man and a woman in front of City Hall on Victoria Street.

According to witness Tabitha Sabyan, who recorded video of the interaction, Tucker grabbed her phone and tried to break it before throwing it away.

Once Sabyan resumed recording, video shows Tucker drawing both his taser and his sidearm at a barking dog being held on a leash.

Once the dog is passed to another person, Tucker can be seen wrestling a woman to the ground in order to place her under arrest.

CFJC Today has contacted BC RCMP for an update regarding Tucker’s status and a potential Code of Conduct investigation, and the B.C. Prosecution Service regarding the waived assault charge.
