Cuts for Toys returns to downtown Kamloops Monday

KAMLOOPS — A downtown Kamloops barbershop is offering up its services in exchange for toy donations Monday (Dec. 2) as part of the 10th annual Cuts for Toys event.

People who come to Manhandler Barbershop in the 300-block of Victoria Street and bring in a new toy with a value around $25 will get their haircut free of charge Monday.

“We started in 2014 and it’s been growing ever since,” says Manhandler Barbershop owner Deanna DeCicco. “We just love doing it. All the staff love giving back to our community.”

DeCicco’s daughter Mia was also in the shop to lend a hand and says it’s become a family tradition.

“I’m just really happy that my mom decided to do this,” said Mia DeCicco. “It’s a really great cause and I really hope that this continues for a long time.”

The donated toys will then be distributed to Christmas Amalgamated and the women’s shelter to ensure families going through a tough time can still provide their children with a new present for the holidays.

“I’ve lived in Kamloops for a long time, I’ve had a business downtown, and for me it’s just an opportunity to give back to my community that supports us. We love everyone in it,” explains DeCicco. “I was a recipient many, many years ago when I had young children, you know, over 25 years ago with my young children and I had to go and utilize a program like this. To me, it’s personal as well.”

Haircuts will be running all day and toys can also be donated without an appointment up until 6:00 p.m. Monday evening.
