All Kamloops utility bills available online as Canada Post strike continues

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says residents will be able to access all utility bills online as the strike at Canada Post, which is interrupting mail delivery across the country, is now into its third week.

Residents are being urged to sign up for a free MyCity account, where they will be able to view current and past utility bills as well as access information regarding dog and business licences, monitor building/development permits, and schedule building inspection requests.

“The City of Kamloops reminds residents of the upcoming quarterly utility payment deadline in recognition that labour action at Canada Post is interrupting mail service throughout Canada,” the City said, in a statement. “This disruption will likely delay the delivery of mailed utility bills to residents and commercial utility users this quarter.”

Bridget White, the City’s Revenue Supervisor, says people who have signed up for eBilling – which can also be done through myCity – should have received their bills by email on Nov. 29.

“All utility users must be aware that the mail service interruption will not change the deadline for utility payments,” White said, noting the utility bills that aren’t paid by Dec. 31, will be subject to penalties and interest.

Residents who do not have access to MyCity can stop by City Hall or call 250-828-3438 if they need assistance with billing information.

While says all utility bills can be paid online; at a bank; in person at City Hall on weekdays; or at a dropbox at either City Hall, the Tournament Capital Centre, the North Shore Community Policing Office, or at Westsyde Pool.

The City also said business licence renewal notices and some vendor payments, which are also due on Dec. 31, may also be delayed by the strike.
