SASKATOON — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack women’s volleyball team won all six sets they played this weekend to end their best first semester in Canada West program history.

The WolfPack swept the Huskies 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) at the Physical Activity Centre Saturday (Nov. 30) to improve to 8-2 on the season.

“We got a weekend sweep on the road and I think sometimes this is the toughest weekend to play after a long semester with exams coming up,” Head Coach Chad Grimm said post-game.

“I’m happy with the weekend overall.”

Brooklyn Olfert led the TRU offence with 14 kills and a three aces, while Rida Erlalelitepe and Maria Dancheva added eight kills apiece. Libby Meldrum also racked up 29 assists for the WolfPack, who have now won four in a row.

“We had a long road trip and played early in a different time zone so it wasn’t our cleanest game today,” Grimm added. “We would start well and then let our foot off the gas and I think at times Saskatchewan was the more aggressive team and that was paying off for them.”

“At the end of the day we found a way to close out the sets so obviously that’s the important thing.”

The TRU women began the weekend ranked fifth in the nation, and third in the U SPORTS coaches poll.

Also in Saskatchewan, the WolfPack men’s volleyball team rounded out an emotional week with a 3-1 defeat (22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-23) Saturday night.

Outside hitter Sam Flowerday finished with 11 kills and a pair of aces for TRU, leaving him just six away from becoming WolfPack player to hit 1,000 kills.

Middle Jakob Leinemann also had eight kills on the night, while brothers Mason and Walker Sodaro combined for two solo and seven block assists, with Walker also putting up 30 assists Saturday.

“I’m proud of the fight the guys showed this weekend,” Head Coach Pat Hennelly said. “It was an especially solid effort from Jakob Leinemann and Mason Sodaro in the middle.”

The loss drops the WolfPack men to 2-8 on the season, which has them tied for 10th place in Canada West going into the holiday break.

Next up for the WolfPack volleyball teams is a home game against the Winnipeg Wesmen on Jan. 10, 2025 at the TCC. The men are scheduled to play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the women at 7:15 p.m.
