Operation Red Nose begins 28th season in Kamloops Friday

KAMLOOPS — Operation Red Nose is set to kick off their 28th year in Kamloops tonight (Nov. 29).

Every Friday and Saturday night for the rest of the year, as well as on New Years’ Eve, Pacific Sport Kamloops volunteers will be working in teams of three between 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. to ensure that people and their vehicles get home safe.

“We are all excited. We always wait for that first weekend to kick us off, and the volunteers are ready, the community is ready,” Carolynn Boomer, Executive Director of Pacific Sport Interior BC, said.

“I’m volunteering on Saturday. So, I’m excited.”

The money raised during the 11 nights that Operation Red Nose volunteers will be out and about remains in the community.

Boomer says that money to help local amateur athletes reach their full potential, including some athletes that recently starred at the Paris Olympics.

“Fun fact, Dylan Armstrong is the longest standing athlete turned coach that we supported through his career,” Boomer said. “It’s really exciting to see his athletes like Ethan Katzberg do so well at the Olympic Games. He is also one of our athletes that we support.”

“It’s a real nice feel for everybody. You are keeping Kamloops streets safer during the holiday season as a volunteer and then the money that the clients donate support these athletes along their journey.”
