KAMLOOPS — A man responsible for a 2019 Kamloops drug trade murder is eligible for parole earlier after the B.C. Court of Appeal substituted a conviction.

Hugh McIntosh was convicted of first degree murder in March 2021 and received a life sentence in June of that year. McIntosh shot Jason Glover to death on Feb. 15, 2019, in a Brocklehurst apartment. A woman in the apartment was also targeted but survived.

Initially, in B.C. Supreme Court, McIntosh received no chance of parole for 25 years mandatory for first degree murder. However, explaining the details to CFJC Today, a BC Crown Counsel spokesperson says the Court of Appeal ruled the jury erred in convicting on first degree murder, ruling it should have only been second degree murder.

McIntosh will still serve a life sentence, but after a re-sentencing in B.C. Supreme Court on Friday (Nov. 22), he is now eligible for parole in 17 years.
