PRINCE GEORGE — Riley Heidt had a pair of goals and an assist as the Prince George Cougars beat the Kamloops Blazers 5-3 Friday night, Nov. 22.

Terik Parascak also had a three point night for the Cougars who continue to lead the BC Division with a 13-5-3-2 record, while the Blazers dropped to 11-11-1.

Kai Matthew opened the scoring for the Blazers early in the first period with a shot from the left circle finding its way past Cougars goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen.

Goals from Parascak in the first as well as as Heidt and Jett Lajoie in the second had the Cougars up by two goals though Jordan Keller’s power play marker made it 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Heidt and rookie defenseman Arseni Anisimov extended the Cougars’ lead Friday, with the latter’s goal his first in the WHL. Tommy Lafreniere then rounded out the scoring for the Blazers with a little over five minutes left to play.

Blazers goaltender Dylan Ernst turned aside 26 of 31 shots he faced in a losing effort, while Ravensbergen stopped 19 of 22 to each his 12th win of the season.

It doesn’t get easier for the Blazers as they host the Western Conference leading Everett Silvertips at Sandman Centre Saturday night, Nov. 23.

It’ll be the return of former Blazers goaltender Jesse Sanche. The 18-year-old boasts a WHL-best 2.15 goals against average and a 0.915 save percentage, which is good for third in the WHL.

It is retro night and diabetes awareness night, with the puck drop scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
