KAMLOOPS — On Sunday (Nov. 24), thousands of Kamloops residents will line the streets of the city’s downtown core to catch this year’s Santa Claus Parade.

The festivities hosted by the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association and Thompson Rivers University will see 60 floats make their way from the corner of Second Avenue and St. Paul Street, along Victoria Street to Sixth Avenue.

“It’s the 44th annual (parade) this year and our theme is holiday movie magic,” says Alexandra Eaket, Marketing and Events Coordinator with Downtown Kamloops. “People can expect the floats to be inspired by your favourite holiday movies from either today or what you’ve grown up watching. And obviously, since it’s an evening parade again, it’s going to be full of lights and live music and lots of community cheer.”

There will be a series of temporary road closures in effect downtown before, during and after the parade. Drivers are asked to use caution when going around the area.

Sunday’s event will start by waking up Santa at 3:40 p.m., with the parade starting at 4:00 p.m.

On-street parking is free on Sundays throughout downtown and both parkades along Lansdowne and Seymour Street will also be free-of-charge.

“Carpool, utilize the parkades because they’re free on the weekends. Get here early, get your spot.”

If you can’t make it in person, a live video stream will be available on the Downtown Kamloops Facebook page, and for those looking to stay indoors, the Paramount Theatre will also be showing the video stream.
