13-hour closure slated for Merritt emergency department starting Friday evening

MERRITT, B.C. — It’s a familiar story for Merritt residents Friday night (Nov. 22), with Interior Health (IH) announcing a closure of the community’s emergency department.

IH says the ER at Nicola Valley Hospital will be closed as of 7:00 p.m. on Friday and remain shuttered until 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The health authority does not provide a reason for the closure.

Patients in need of emergency medical care are urged to call 9-1-1 or attend the emergency department at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
