100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — Police will provide an update into the investigation of a school bus crash that injured 30 people and led to the death of a pedestrian in Lac La Hache this summer.

BC Highway Patrol states it will hold a media availability regarding the crash at the 100 Mile House RCMP detachment Friday (Nov. 22) at 10:00 a.m.

Back on June 21, police and BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) personnel responded to Highway 97 at Butler Road in Lac La Hache where a school bus had careened down an embankment.

RCMP say there were more than 30 people on the bus, which was returning to the 100 Mile House area after a field trip in Williams Lake. At least 17 patients were sent to hospital.

Shortly after the bus crash, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and pronounced dead after life-saving efforts by paramedics. Police say, according to witnesses, the 67-year-old man from the Cariboo was crossing the road to help.

In late June, police said the investigation into the school bus crash could take months. BC Highway Patrol in Williams Lake was asking for dashcam video from anyone travelling between 150 Mile House and Butler Road between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024.
