Penguins’ prospect, world juniors hopeful Brunicke of Blazers suffers wrist fracture

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Blazers’ defenceman Harrison Brunicke suffered a broken wrist during practice on Nov. 10.

The Pittsburgh Penguins’ prospect is in a cast and will be out of the lineup for “considerable time,” said Blazers’ head coach and GM Shaun Clouston.

Clouston said X-rays late next week are expected to reveal more about the severity of the injury and the timeline for his return.

Brunicke is aiming to earn an invite to Team Canada’s selection camp in December ahead of the World Junior Hockey Championship.

The South African-born defenceman played on Nov. 11, but pain lingered and a scan later that week revealed the fracture.

Clouston said Hockey Canada scouts watched the game on Nov. 11 and Brunicke played well.

“Hopefully there is good news and it’s not quite as long term as it can be,” Clouston said. “There is still some light.”
