Kamloops athletes storm podium at Dragon Boat World Championships
KAMLOOPS — Four Kamloops athletes reached the podium for Team Canada at the International Canoe Federation Dragon Boat World Championships, which took place earlier this month in Puerto Princesa, Philippines.
Mischa Grover, Douglas Hunter, Harris Hunter and Josh Reid were medal-winning teammates in four events, paddling to gold in the junior 10-person open 200-metre and 500m events, silver in the junior 10-person open 2,000m and silver in the senior 20-person mixed 200m.
Grover was a drummer for three women’s 50-plus teams and one 40-plus women’s team, snaring two gold medals and two silver medals.
A few days before worlds, the paddlers claimed two gold medals and about $13,000 at the Puerto Princesa International Dragon Boat Festival.
