Kamloops hoping to attract new aircraft maintenance businesses to Fulton Field
KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops councillor says the city is trying to attract businesses that repair and maintain aircraft as part of the push to develop the land around Fulton Field following a massive rezoning earlier this year.
Bill Sarai, who is chair of the Kamloops Airport Authority Society, says the goal is to try to alleviate some of the pressures faced by aviation-related businesses based at Kelowna Airport, as Kamloops has land that is adjacent to the runway.
“That is very hard to find across Canada so that is a great attraction to other airlines that do their maintenance here,” Sarai told CFJC Today. “I’m hoping we’ll attract airlines that aren’t servicing Kamloops that this may be a maintenance hub that they can use.”
Sarai says he has been in contact with officials at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) and with Lisa Beare, B.C.’s former minister of post-secondary education and future skills, to discuss what could be feasible in Kamloops.
