Prescribed burns taking place at Pinantan Lake; smoke may be visible

Nov 14, 2024 | 9:43 AM

KAMLOOPS — Residents may notice smoke from the Pinantan Lake area this month.

The BC Wildfire Service says its crews will help the Thompson Rivers Natural Resource District with pile burning to reduce the accumulation of wildfire hazards such as dead wood and brush on the landscape.

The prescribed burns at Pinantan Lake, nearly 22 kilometres northeast of Kamloops, may be visible as of Thursday (Nov. 14) and remain so until the end of the month. In a news release, the wildfire service states that pile burning will only proceed if conditions are favourable.

Residents can report a wildfire or an unattended campfire or open burning violation by calling 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone.
