Salvation Army Kamloops rings first bells of 2024 Kettle Campaign

Nov 13, 2024 | 7:30 PM

KAMLOOPS — The holiday season is approaching and the Salvation Army in Kamloops has kicked off its annual Kettle campaign.

Local organizers were set up at Sarah’s Independent Grocer Wednesday morning (Nov. 13) to receive the first cash and card-tap donations. Major Tracy Goyak says the money given to the kettles is used for Salvation Army programs, including the emergency food bank, the seniors breakfast program and after school programs for children and youth.

“The money stays in Kamloops, obviously. It goes to the Salvation Army for our programs and funds our programs throughout the year,” explains Goyak. “Everything we do at the Salvation Army, we rely on these funds to get us through the whole year.”

Last year’s campaign raised around $235,000, and this year’s goal is to collect $240,000 in donations. Along with monetary contributions, Goyak says the Salvation Army is also hoping people can volunteer their time.

“We need volunteers for our kettles so if you have an hour extra, maybe two hours to spare, we’ve got 12 locations throughout the city and we would love to have you stand at one of our kettles,” she adds. “It really is just a fun thing to do during the season. You can ring some bells or wear a funny Christmas hat and just join us and help raise the money for this year.”

Information on where to donate or how to volunteer as a kettle bell-ringer can be found on the Kamloops Salvation Army’s website.
