Pacific Sport Interior BC celebrates 30 years, helps launch annual Operation Red Nose campaign

KAMLOOPS – Tuesday night (Nov. 12) was a special one for Pacific Sport Interior BC as the organization celebrated its 30th anniversary. The night also provided the partner Operation Red Nose the chance to launch this year’s campaign.

Supporters gathered at the Sandman Centre for some drinks and appetizers to mark the 30-year milestone. Different athletes and staff were recognized as crucial to Pacific Sport’s success over the years. Executive Director Carolynn Boomer was very proud to have reached this big milestone.

“Thirty years has flown by. It’s been a huge, wonderful ride,” Boomer told CFJC Today. “It started with $47,000, a phone and a desk, back in 1994. We’ve just really built a strong community. It’s not on the backs of one person by any means and I feel like I’m living my Olympic dream with all of this. Every facet of the job is absolutely not a job. It’s a career that I just hold near and dear to my heart.”

The event also served as the media launch of Operation Red Nose. The organization is celebrating 28 years of helping people get home safely during the holidays and prevent impaired driving in the community. To date, Operation Red Nose has provided more than 22,254 safe rides home to passengers. They are always looking for volunteers to help over the holidays and hope to have another successful campaign this upcoming winter.

“We send our volunteers out in teams of three. One drives their own car, one drives the participant’s car, and then the third person is a navigator to help everyone get home safely,” said coordinator Lucas Sweet. “If you’re not a huge fan of driving at night, you can also volunteer in the office as well, taking phone calls or sending the teams out.”
