Casimir re-elected Kukpi7 of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc

TK’EMLUPS — Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc members have elected Rosanne Casimir to a third term as Kukpi7 (chief).

The election for Kukpi7 and council wrapped up with general voting day Saturday (Nov. 9). Casimir received 282 votes (58 per cent), defeating challenger Joshua Gottfriedson, who received 201 votes (42 per cent).

First elected in 2018, Casimir helmed the First Nation through the COVID-19 pandemic and the Le Estcwicwe´y announcement of 2021. She campaigned on a platform of completing projects in progress, such as an Elder’s Lodge and Healing House.

The seven seats on council went to Nikki Fraser, Myron Thomas, David Manuel, Daylin Malloy, Thomas Blank, Vicki Manuel and Boyd Gottfriedson.

The newly-elected Kukpi7 and council will serve until 2027.
