Blazers score four unanswered goals to extend win streak to three games

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers scored four unanswered goals in a 4-2 win over the Spokane Chiefs at Sandman Centre Friday night (Nov. 8).

Layton Feist and Oren Shtrom had a goal and an assist each while Dylan Ernst made 36 saves to pick up the win.

While the Chiefs led by two goals early in the second period , power play goals from Feist and Shtrom had the two teams tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes of hockey.

Goals from Kai Matthew – his first of the season – and an empty netter from Harrison Brunicke in the third period gave the Blazers the two points, and their third consecutive win.

Chief’s goaltender Dawson Cowan stopped 29 of 32 shots in a losing effort, while former Blazer Shea Van Olm had two assists in his return to Kamloops. Van Olm sits second in both points (30) and goals (16) this season.

The Blazers improve to 9-8-1-0 and sit seventh in the WHL’s Western Conference with 19 points from 18 games. The Chiefs drop to 11-8-0-0 and are fourth in the Western Conference.

Next up for the Blazers is a matchup against the Eastern Conference leading Saskatoon Blades at Sandman Centre tonight, Nov. 9. Puck drop is at 6 p.m.
