TRU club hosts hygiene drive around campus to help the homeless
KAMLOOPS – If you have walked around the campus at Thompson Rivers University recently, you may have noticed colourful cardboard boxes with hygiene items inside. They are part of a drive put on by the Hygiene for Homeless Club at TRU.
The club started last year and aims to provide the homeless population of Kamloops with essential hygiene products. One of the many ways they do that is by hosting different fundraisers throughout the year. This semester, the club has turned to students and staff at TRU to help out with its hygiene product drive. Donating all that’s collected to organizations that help the unhoused in the community.
“It means a lot to be able to do this,” said Hygiene for Homeless Club co-president Jessye Large. “It’s obviously a privilege to be on this end of it and being able to give to the people who are less fortunate. Especially in Kamloops, where it’s kind of a huge problem and sometimes overlooked. Even little things that we can do it feels really good.”
