KAMLOOPS — Two members of the TRU WolfPack family made emotional returns to the Tournament Capital Centre on Friday (Nov. 1).

Owen Waterhouse, a WolfPack men’s volleyball player who suffered a brain injury during a motor-vehicle collision last November near TRU, launched the ceremonial first serve prior to a Canada West tilt that featured TRU and the visiting UBC Okanagan Heat of Kelowna.

The capacity crowd greeted the serve with a standing ovation.

After UBC Okanagan downed TRU 3-1, the first-ever Owyn McInnis Memorial Men’s Volleyball Award was handed to WolfPack outside hitter Sam Flowerday.

McInnis died in the crash last November and his mom, Erin Walter, was at the TCC on Friday to deliver the award and a rousing speech.

CFJC Today was at the match and spoke to Walter, Waterhouse and his parents and Riley Brinnen, who was also seriously injured in the collision.

Find stories online and on our evening CFJC-TV broadcasts on Monday (Nov. 4).

The WolfPack (1-2) will host the rematch against the Heat (3-0) on Saturday (Nov. 2), a 3 p.m. start at the TCC.
