MERRITT AND WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The B.C. Wildfire Service is notifying residents of Merritt and Williams Lake that it will carry out fuel burning near those cities starting Friday (Nov. 1).

The project in the Nicola Valley will take place along Lindley Creek Road, 3.5 kilometres west of Merritt.

Crews will begin burning about 50 piles of wood and debris, starting Friday and continuing through the month of November.

Smoke from that effort will likely be visible to residents of Merritt.

In the Cariboo, crews will burn an area of about 15.3 hectares above the Comer Hill Estates Mobile Home Park and along the north side of Soda Creek Road.

The project will start Friday and could be carried out through March 20, 2025. It will take place when weather conditions are favourable.

Smoke from this prescribed burn will likely be visible from Soda Creek Road, Mackenzie Avenue and other areas of Williams Lake.
