WINNIPEG — The TRU Wolfpack Women’s Volleyball team is showing why coaches across Canada West (CW) placed them fifth in the preseason poll after a dominant weekend sweep of the reigning CW Champs.

After a 3-1 win on Friday, the Pack swept away the Manitoba Bisons with a clean 3-0 win on Saturday, starting the season 2-0.

New international import Rida Erlaletitepe had 14 kills, a night after tying the CW record with 31 in her debut. Brooklyn Olfert added 11 in her hometown with Maria Dacheva dding 10. Libby Meldrum was the starting setter, showcasing the depth of the ‘Pack with 30 assists.

“I was really happy with how the team came out. It was an unknown for us after getting a big win yesterday how we would react and obviously the team did well,” said Head Coach Chad Grimm.

Meanwhile the men’s side was able to earn a split, claiming the Saturday matchup 3-1.

Last seasons kill leader Sam Flowerday showed his power with a game high 17 kills to pace the Pack with Rylan Ibbetson adding 16 and Dylan Annala finishing off 15 kills in the win.

Great effort from the guys tonight to stay engaged over the first three close sets. Dylan Annala was excellent tonight with Rylan Ibbetson having a big night offensively, especially from the service line,” said Head Coach Pat Hennelly.

The Wolfpack return to the TCC for their home opener next weekend with games on Friday and Saturday versus the UBC Okanagan Heat.
