WolfPack volleyball women open season with statement victory over hometown Bisons; Turkish hitter dominates
WINNIPEG — Earlier this week, members of the TRU WolfPack women’s volleyball team made lofty claims during interviews with CFJC Today, noting their club has potential this season to reach the U Sports national championship for the first time in program history — and win the tournament.
Rida Erlalelitepe of Turkey was among the confident group and she backed up her words in the club’s first regular season match of the campaign, with 31 kills in a four-set victory over the Manitoba Bisons on Friday (Oct. 25) in Winnipeg.
In fact, she tied a Canada West record for kills in a four-set match.
The Bisons (1-2), who are ranked No. 1 in the pre-season conference coaches’ poll, will host the rematch on Saturday (Oct. 22).
