KAMLOOPS — Several Kamloops-area candidates were reached for comment on Saturday (Oct. 19), which is provincial general election day in B.C.

Ward Stamer, the BC Conservatives’ candidate in the Kamloops-North Thompson riding, said he planned to spend much of the day chasing votes.

“Win the two seats in Kamloops, but also to be government,” Stamer said when asked for his hopes for the outcome of the election. “That’s the reason why I got into this. It wasn’t for official opposition. It was for us to be able to make the changes we want to be able to do for the people.”

Kamal Grewal, the B.C. NDP candidate in Kamloops Centre, said she plans to make calls from her office and knock on doors on Saturday.

“I’m feeling very optimistic and hopeful,” she said. “Talking to people on the doorsteps, it really does feel like people are ready for that change here in Kamloops. I’m going to keep giving everything I have until the last minute and hope for the best.”

Tristan Cavers, the Green Party candidate for Kamloops-North Thompson, said much of his day will be dedicated to earning Canadian ski patrol recertification, as the annual course that takes place for returning ski patrol at Sun Peaks Resort and Harper Mountain is scheduled for this weekend at St. John Ambulance.

“My totally optimistic, over-the-moon (hope) would be, yeah, victory,” Cavers said. “My more-grounded, realistic (hope) is that we bump up the percentage … every vote translates into two dollars for the party for each year the legislator is sitting. It does mean more resources for the Green Party going forward.”

Results are expected to begin filtering in about 15 minutes after polls close at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

CFJC TV will have results and analysis during coverage scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. on Saturday.
