CLINTON, B.C. — Residents in Clinton and area, along with drivers travelling along Highway 97 south, may notice some smoke over the next month.

The BC Wildfire Service says crews will carry out a prescribed burn on 344 hectares of open range near Wildhorse Creek. The burn is located nearly 60 kilometres west of Highway 97 and nearly 10 kilometres north of the Big Bar Ferry crossing along the Fraser River.

In a news release, the wildfire service says while the exact timing of the burn will be dependent on weather, site and venting conditions, it could begin as early as Tuesday (Oct. 8) and continue periodically until Nov. 15.

The goal of the prescribed burn is to reduce the number of live encroachment trees and shrubs and stimulate the growth of native forage grasses for domestic and wildlife use.
