Planned power outage to impact about 8,500 customers on Sunday in North Thompson: BC Hydro

BC Hydro is planning a power outage for infrastructure maintenance that will impact about 8,500 customers on Sunday (Oct. 6) in the North Thompson area.

The outage is expected to begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at 7 p.m.

Susan Edgell, a stakeholder engagement advisor in community relations for BC Hydro, said on Saturday the outage will range from Heffley Creek up to and including Blue River.

On Sunday, Edgell updated CFJC Today, noting pockets of Kamloops will be affected, including in the Halston area and to the north in Rayleigh.

Edgell said Valemount and McBride are on the affected transmission line, but both towns have independent power producers that will keep their lights on.

Customers expected to lose power were notified this past summer and again in recent weeks, said Edgell, who noted highway signage denoting the upcoming planned outage has been visible.

“We would rather have a planned outage and let people know ahead in order to get the work done rather than have an outage that happens at the last minute with no warning that could go longer than 12 hours,” Edgell said.
