Kamloops BC SPCA issues urgent plea for pet food

KAMLOOPS – The Kamloops BCSPCA has put out an urgent call for pet food for it’s animal food bank program.

“Everyone is really struggling, right now as well as there’s obviously been an increase in prices of every type of food, pet food included,” said Dana Coulter, Kamloops BCSPCA animal care manager. “We’re often times seeing your average family struggling to provide for their pets.”

Like many charity organizations, the BCSPCA reports receiving fewer donations to its pet food bank as many struggle to make ends meet.

“Everybody is having to make cuts in their budget in someplace,” Coulter told CFJC News. “As unfortunate as it is, we understand that donations are sometimes the first things to be cut.”

The Kamloops program supplies food to individuals in need, as well as 10 organizations in the region, including surrounding rural areas.

To meet the needs of the community, the Kamloops shelter is hosting an urgent food drive in partnership with a few local pet stores.

Donations for the BC SPCA pet food bank can be dropped off at the Kamloops branch, located at 2816 Tranquille Road, Bosley’s Valleyview, PetSmart and Animal House. Donations to pet store locations will be collected through the Thanksgiving weekend.

Coulter says dry dog and cat food is needed most, but any unopened animal food would be greatly appreciated.
