Merritt emergency room closure extended to Tuesday morning

MERRITT, B.C. — A previously announced closure of the emergency department at Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt has been extended by another 24 hours.

The initial announcement noted the closure would begin at 8:00 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 29) and last 24 hours. Now, Interior Health says the emergency room will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Monday (Oct. 1).

IH says the closure was made necessary by limited physician availability.

People who require emergency medical care are advised to either call 9-1-1 or visit the emergency department at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
