Valleyview boat launch reopens to allow residents to remove boats

KAMLOOPS — One boat launch has reopened following the Red Bridge fire last week, but the City of Kamloops says the South Thompson is still closed for recreation.

In a news release issued Friday (Sept. 27), the City says the Valleyview boat launch has been reopened to allow residents to remove their boats from the river as the water levels drop.

However, Transport Canada and B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure have ordered the portion of the South Thompson River between Pioneer Park and Riverside Park to remain closed to all boating. The government branches remind boaters to be cautious of debris downstream (west) of the confluence.

The McArthur Island and Pioneer Park boat launches remain closed.
