Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc & City of Kamloops join to hold National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

KAMLOOPS– September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc holding its celebration and Orange Shirt Day

The First Nation welcomed everyone to the Kamloopa Powwow Grounds for experiences that included engaging activities, cultural teachings, tours of the Kamloops Residential School, and a one-mile Orange Shirt Day Walk that took place at 3:00 pm.

“It’s a day to reflect on the work that the TRC has done and all the survivors who had the courage and the strength to be able to share their truths. And now there was actions upon to that. So, it’s just about ensuring that we keep moving forward together and working on that truth and reconciliation together every day.” – Nikki Fraser, Acting Kúkpi7

This year was the first of many that the City of Kamloops and Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc had a joint initiative to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. All of city council attended the event and showed their support as well.
