KAMLOOPS — Western Canada Theatre has a new man at the top with Matt Eger taking over the role this week as executive director of the company.

After arriving in Kamloops just a few weeks ago, Eger moved into his role as executive director on Monday (Sept 23). Not lost on him was his timing with the announcement of the performing arts centre moving ahead that same day.

“I can’t even put to words how incredible it is to arrive at this time, when the Kamloops Centre for the Arts got approved [as part of] Build Kamloops. What a beautiful time to be welcomed to the city,” said Eger. “On my first day here, I also got welcomed by the northern lights in the sky so it all seems like it’s coming together. What a beautiful time for the city and for the arts in the city, too.”

Eger will be looking after the business side of the operation, working along with Artistic Director James MacDonald to steer Western Canada Theatre into the future. Eger comes to Kamloops with experience both on the stage as a performer and behind it working as a director and producer on many productions across Canada.

“So much experience in this company as far as the artists and the skills that come with the job that needs to get done as far as putting on the plays that happen here, the brilliant artwork that gets put on. I get to work on the organization, work on the finances and make sure that everything organizationally is sitting in the right place, as well,” said Eger.
