KAMLOOPS — Kamloops has received the first ever Sport Heritage Community designation by the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

The reveal was made at the Hall’s inaugural annual summit that’s being held in Kamloops from Sept. 19 to 21.

In a news release issued Thursday, the Hall states the Sport Heritage Community designation recognizes the communities that have outstanding merit and are highly representative of a community’s sport history and heritage.

The Hall credits Kamloops for earning its reputation as Canada’s Tournament Capital after hosting the Canada Summer Games in 1993 and hosting more than 100 cultural and community events and world-class sports tournaments each year.
