SALMON ARM, B.C. — A Salmon Arm city councillor will carry the BC New Democratic Party (NDP) banner in October’s provincial election.

In a news release, the BC NDP announced Sylvia Lindgren as its candidate for the Salmon Arm-Shuswap riding.

Lindgren was first elected to Salmon Arm council in the 2018 municipal election and was re-elected in 2022.

“People across Salmon Arm-Shuswap need a government that will take action to strengthen public services and tackle today’s big challenges head-on,” Lindgren states.

With Lindgren receiving the NDP nomination, all three parties with official party status in the B.C. Legislative Assembly who are running candidates in the election now have their MLA hopefuls for the Salmon Arm-Shuswap riding.

David Williams will run for the Conservative Party of BC while Jeb Wiebe will run for the Greens. Former Enderby Mayor and BC United Candidate Greg McCune will run as an independent.

The Salmon Arm-Shuswap riding will see a new MLA. Shuswap MLA for BC United Greg Kyllo announced he would not seek re-election in 2023.

The B.C. general election will be held on Oct. 19, 2024.
