KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are looking for a different kind of cat burglar.

Police say they want to know who stole Luna the cat from her backyard in downtown Kamloops and taken across the city.

According to a news release issued Thursday (Sept. 19) by detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, security video shows Luna was stolen from her backyard in the 800-block of St. Paul Street at about 6:40 p.m. last Wednesday (Sept. 11).

“Security video confirmed that Luna’s disappearance wasn’t an accident,” said Evelyn. “The video revealed that she had been coaxed from her backyard, into the alleyway behind her home, and taken by a woman in a white Dodge van.”

Earlier this week, Luna was found in a highly unlikely manner — a family friend who happened to be in the area of Bossert Street in Brocklehurst recognized her and contacted her owner. She was returned safe and sound.

Luna’s owner is baffled as to why she was stolen. She is black and white and ‘of no particular breed,’ according to Evelyn.

Now, RCMP are releasing images of the suspect and an associated white Dodge van, hoping it will jog someone’s memory.
