Kamloops RCMP are requesting patience from the public while crews clean up the accident and fuel spill that is keeping Highway 5 closed in both directions about three kilometres north of Rayleigh.

A tanker truck’s trailer flipped in a single-vehicle incident near the Tournament Capital Ranch on Saturday (Sept. 14), according to an RCMP press release on Sunday (Sept. 15).

Nobody was hurt, but fuel leaked from the trailer.

Drive BC notes the next scheduled update on the highway closure is scheduled for noon on Sunday.

“We request the public’s patience while crews clean up fuel and remove the vehicle from the highway,” B.C. RCMP spokesperson Brett Urano said in the press release.

“We are continuing to investigate with our partners to determine the cause of the incident. If you have any video or witnessed the crash please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.”

Alternate routes are available through Highway 1, Highway 97 and Highway 24.
