ASHCROFT, B.C. — The B.C. Greens have added a group of new candidates to their provincial election slate, including a longtime environmental and social activist in Cariboo-Chilcotin.

John Kidder will carry the Green banner in the riding. He is credited with being one of the founders of the provincial party in 1983, making it the first Green party in North America.

Kidder previously ran for the Greens in Fraser-Nicola during the 2013 election, finishing third. He has run twice federally — for the Liberal Party of Canada in 2011 and for the federal Greens in 2019.

Kidder is married to federal Green leader Elizabeth May and is the brother of late actress Margot Kidder.

The Ashcroft-area resident will go up against incumbent Lorne Doerkson (Conservative Party of B.C.) and Michael Moses (B.C. NDP).

In the greater Kamloops region, Kidder joins Green candidates Randy Sunderman (Kamloops Centre), Jonah Timms (Fraser-Nicola) and Jeb Wiebe (Salmon Arm-Shuswap). The party has yet to nominate a candidate in Kamloops-North Thompson.
