KAMLOOPS — The City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project is nearly entering the home stretch.

Stage Three of the construction work on the Lansdowne Street corridor is expected to begin Monday (Sept. 9). In a news release, the City of Kamloops says Lansdowne Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenue will include trench work on the north side of the street and one lane of through traffic on the south side.

Single-lane traffic will begin in the 600-block of Lansdowne Street and continue in the 400-block.

The city states Stage Four of the City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project will begin toward the end of September. It will involve the full closure of the Fifth Avenue intersection and the entire 500-block of Lansdowne Street. During that time, traffic will be detoured south on Sixth Avenue to St. Paul Street.

The City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project is expected to cause phased closures on Lansdowne Street until November 2024. Once complete, the city says the Lansdowne trunk main will service the city centre, the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc area, Sagebrush, Valleyview, Rose Hill, Juniper Ridge, Dallas, Campbell Creek, Barnhartvale, West End neighbourhoods and portions of Lower Sahali.

The City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project is meant to install a trunk sewer main on Lansdowne Street from First Avenue to Seventh Avenue. Matt Kachel, the city’s capital projects manager, says it’s meant to accommodate the rapid business and residential growth in downtown Kamloops.
