ASHCROFT, B.C. — Veteran M.L.A. Jackie Tegart has announced she will not seek a fourth term in this fall’s provincial election. She had been expected to represent the BC United Party in the election in the riding of Fraser-Nicola.

Tegart was first elected in the 2013 provincial election as a member of the BC Liberal Party in the riding of Fraser-Nicola. She was re-elected in 2017 and again in 2020. Tegart also served three terms on the Ashcroft municipal council and sat as a school board trustee for 17 years.

“Serving the people of Fraser Nicola has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” said Tegart in a news release Tuesday (Sept. 3) morning. Tegart identified several achievements as milestones in her career including a $60-million fix for the 10 Mile Slide near Lillooet, spearheading the construction of a new Emergency Room at the Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt, and fostering the growth of Ashcroft Terminal.

Tegart extended her appreciation to her supporters as well as her staff who worked at offices in her riding and in Victoria.

“To the countless supporters who have stood with us over the past decade, I am deeply grateful for their trust and encouragement.”

With Tegart stepping aside voters will have at least three choices in the October 19 election. Tony Luck will represent the Conservative Party of BC while Jonah Timms is running for the Green Party. Francyne Joe will be representing the NDP NDP in the riding that was reshaped to include the areas of Agassiz and Kent.
